Mongolia

Mongolia is a landlocked country in the northeastern part of Asia on the Mongolian Plateau, covering 1.57 square-kilometers.

It borders China to the east, south and west and Russia to the north. It is mostly mountainous in the west, north and center, and hills and plains in the east, with desert in the south, and a typical continental climate. The capital is Ulaanbaatar and the national anthem is the “Anthem of Mongolia”.

It has a population of 2.87 million (2013 census) and an economy based mainly on animal husbandry and mining. It is abundant in natural resources, with more than 80 known minerals, including copper, molybdenum, gold, silver, uranium, lead, zinc, rare earth, iron, fluorite, phosphor, coal and petroleum.

Its Erdenet Cu-Mo Mine is among the Top 10 worldwide, and first in Asia. Its forests cover 18.3 million hectares, giving it a forest coverage rate of 8.2 percent.
